About the Route

A sea of greenery…a paradise of produce…a waterway of immense pleasure and opportunity… trails on the forefront of outdoor captivation and retreat. These are just some of the snapshots of life which can be easily created in Windsor Essex Pelee Island. The region, being the southernmost in Canada, is bursting with an exotic and unique balminess during the summer and an exceptional mildness in winter. Its climate lends itself to various flora and fauna native to the area. The terrain of the land accentuates the complexity and diversity of the local ecology. World-class bird-watching from Point Pelee National Park to the Ojibway Prairie Complex provide tentative nests and perching ground to almost 400 species of birds annually.

Regional roadways connect picture perfect postcard towns such as historic Amherstburg, Kingsville and Harrow, with off-the-beaten path bed and breakfasts, recreational sites, our award-winning EPIC (Essex Pelee Island Coast) Wine Country and a plethora of restaurants; many accentuating the notion of buying and eating local, offering the freshest selection in fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses, while catering to a multicultural smorgasbord of salivating delight.

The dynamic layout of deep blue waterways (consisting of Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River) borders the region’s northern, western and southern shores. Moving offshore, Windsor’s riverfront parks, located on the banks of the Detroit River and stretching over 5 miles or 8 kilometers, offer a panorama of enticing vista points with the downtown skylines of both the cities of Windsor and our American neighbors across the water, Detroit, as the backdrop. An excursion down the Riverfront Trail would not be complete without witnessing the Peace Fountain at Coventry Gardens, boasting a myriad of lights and water-spray patterns, or the Windsor Sculpture Park, an outdoor museum without walls.
